Work on local projects from ChatGPT Web

Connect ChatGPT Web to your local projects with RepoTunnel. Read and edit files, run commands and review work through a Direct HTTPS connection.

Connect ChatGPT to your local projects

RepoTunnel lets you work on your local projects directly from a regular ChatGPT Web conversation. With the Direct HTTPS setup, ChatGPT connects to RepoTunnel running on your computer.

Use GPT‑6 Sol or GPT‑5.6 Sol, where available in ChatGPT, to read and edit files, run commands, investigate problems and manage the projects you have approved for access.

Work with the actual project

Instead of copying files into chat and manually applying every suggested change, ask ChatGPT to work with the actual project. For example, ask it to inspect your website, understand the code, fix an issue, run the relevant checks and explain the results.

RepoTunnel carries out authorized actions in your local environment and returns the results to the conversation. You can review what changed, discuss the results and continue working from there.

Unlimited Direct HTTPS connection usage

Direct HTTPS provides unlimited connection usage without RepoTunnel adding a monthly tunnel request quota or connection-credit allowance. Your ongoing project work does not depend on a tunnel provider’s monthly request allowance.

Keep RepoTunnel and your HTTPS endpoint running, and use that connection for successive tasks, fixes, reviews and improvements.

Use your existing ChatGPT conversation

This workflow uses your existing ChatGPT Web conversation. You do not need a separate OpenAI API key or API token purchases for those chats, and you do not need to open ChatGPT Work or Codex to work on your local projects.

Give instructions in ChatGPT, let RepoTunnel perform the approved local actions and review the results in the same conversation.

Keep access under your control

Choose the project folders ChatGPT can access and the policy each workspace uses. Read-only access is available for inspection, while AI Review lets you approve proposed changes and supported AI Auto actions follow the selected workspace policy.

Filesystem, command, Git and publishing rules remain enforced throughout the connection.

Get connected

Start with one approved project. The documented Direct HTTPS setup is validated on Linux and needs a reachable public network path, a stable hostname and trusted TLS. The setup guide includes provider links, screenshots and checks for each stage.

  • Install RepoTunnel and add the project you want to work on
  • Choose read-only or read-write access and AI Review or AI Auto
  • Complete Direct HTTPS setup and its reachability checks
  • Add the exact MCP endpoint in ChatGPT and complete OAuth
  • Verify with list_workspaces and a permitted project read
  • Ask ChatGPT to inspect, change or check the approved project
