Connect ChatGPT
Connect ChatGPT to RepoTunnel's authenticated MCP endpoint and verify the connection with a real tool call.
Guides follow the current project source. Check the release notes for your installed version.
Prepare the public connection
Start RepoTunnel, approve one project and complete one provider guide. In Connect, wait for Ready and copy the exact public MCP endpoint displayed by the app, including /mcp.
ChatGPT’s custom-app controls depend on your plan and workspace policy. Check OpenAI’s current developer-mode guide if the controls below are unavailable; a workspace administrator may need to enable access.
1 Open the app settings
- Sign in to the ChatGPT account that will use RepoTunnel.
- Open Settings → Apps and find the developer-mode controls described in OpenAI’s guide. Enable the feature if your account and workspace permit it.
- Start the custom-app creation flow. Use your own private connection for this computer.
ChatGPT can change labels and availability. Follow the linked current OpenAI guide when your settings differ.
3 Verify a real project request
Open a new chat, select RepoTunnel and make a read-only request against the one project you approved. Confirm that the response names the intended project and is based on its actual files.
List the approved RepoTunnel workspaces, select my test project,
and read its README. Do not modify any files. Refresh or reconnect when needed
After a RepoTunnel upgrade, use the client’s rescan or refresh flow to load the current tools. Reauthorize if OAuth has expired. A changed provider hostname can require updating or recreating the custom app.
The optional continuation extension helps resume saved exact conversations; it is separate from configuring the MCP app.
