Getting Started

A guide to the RepoTunnel app

Walk through every RepoTunnel sidebar screen, learn where each workflow lives and find practical guides for projects, teams, recovery and the extension.

Guides follow the current project source. Check the release notes for your installed version.

Start with one project and one task

The desktop app is the local control plane. The website explains what each screen does, how its workflow fits together and which capability needs a separate permission or setup step.

Start by approving the intended project. Select only the access required for the task, inspect readiness, connect your chosen AI client and verify a small read before expanding the work.

Home

Use the in-app chat with a selected local model, inspect Gateway and Remote status, and open quick actions for projects, checkpoints, safety scans and Pause AI access.

Projects

Add or clone a trusted folder, select it in the project rail and choose read-only/read-write access independently of AI Review/AI Auto.

The Projects page also shows framework/dependency setup, project overview and Project Memory. Selecting a file opens the workspace editor with search and editor tools.

GPT Agents

GPT Agents is the app’s entry point for Team Mode. Create a persistent two-engineer team for one approved project, supply a goal and success criteria, then copy the separate Engineer A and B kickoffs into their intended AI chats.

Follow the shared planning, task ownership, path claims, cross-review and verification stages. Completing a work request keeps the team attached; End Team is a separate human choice.

Video

Video has Projects and Analyze views. Analyze runs Video Intelligence on supported public or approved local media; Projects manages durable production work with scenes, assets, rendering and QA.

Choose Transcript focus, Visual focus, Tutorial focus or Full according to the evidence you need. Publication and large optional-tool downloads require their own user decisions.

History

History combines pending local review, the selected project’s activity/version timeline and checkpoint management. Pending requests can belong to different approved projects, so check each request’s workspace label; checkpoints can use an all-projects view.

Use it to inspect what actually applied, failed or is still waiting. Recovery controls target their documented file scope; they do not reverse arbitrary remote side effects.

Checks

Choose a project and run Check workflow to inspect end-to-end readiness. The result is Ready, Limited or Blocked and includes a recommended next step.

The readiness inspection is read-only. Actual build/test execution is available through Commands.

Git

Inspect the approved repository’s branch, HEAD and staged/unstaged paths, then review diffs and stage explicit files. Commits use already-staged changes.

Remote push remains a separately authorized publishing action, including in AI Auto. Git support requires an approved root with its own .git directory.

Connect

Manage the local MCP gateway, public provider and optional managed client connection. Configure ngrok, Cloudflare Tunnel, Direct HTTPS or the optional Secure MCP Tunnel path as appropriate.

The local gateway stays on loopback. Confirm the HTTPS/authentication path and a real tool call before treating an external client as connected.

Commands

Use the project selector to work with live one-shot commands, persistent managed processes, launches, browser automation and monitoring.

Choose disposable verification when a discovered build/test/check preset is sufficient. Choose a live command or managed process when the work needs persistent project changes or a long-running service.

Phone

Pair and select your Android device locally, choose Off, Limited or Full AI access and manage Pause AI independently.

The Phone panel provides live screen/control and supported device capabilities. Permissions, sensitive foreground apps and Android policy remain authoritative.

HTTPS Setup

This screen guides the advanced Direct HTTPS path through local requirements, Internet reachability, hostname/DNS checks and final endpoint verification.

Follow the displayed stage results. It requires a working public route and trusted TLS; a hostname alone does not make a private local gateway reachable.

Settings

Review runtime diagnostics, startup preferences, signed-update state and local history retention. The current platform’s installation and automation limits still apply.

Help

Use the built-in guidance for projects, AI modes, security, Git and recovery. Shortcut groups cover workspace navigation, the editor and terminal.

Optional ChatGPT continuation extension

RepoTunnel Continuation is a Chromium companion that delivers authorized checkpoints to exact ChatGPT conversations you explicitly save. It is useful for eligible interrupted or long-running work, and it waits for a safe idle chat with an empty composer.

The extension source is in extensions/chatgpt-continuation on the project’s main branch. It is loaded unpacked and is not a separate desktop v0.4.1 release asset.
