Project Memory and live continuity

Save a project’s goals, decisions and preferences while using live continuity to recover current work without replaying an entire chat.

Guides follow the current project source. Check the release notes for your installed version.

Open the selected project’s continuity panel

Projects includes a Project continuity panel for the selected workspace. It combines saved human context with a current factual resume snapshot.

The visible state can show In progress, Needs attention or Ready to continue, alongside current Git state, active or last-completed work and the next step.

Save the context another AI needs

Choose Add context or Edit context to maintain the project summary, goals, decisions, preferences and next steps. Save the context after making it specific and current.

Describe the desired result and the constraints that should survive a new chat. Keep credentials, tokens and private keys out of project context.

  • Goals describe what the project should accomplish.
  • Decisions record choices that are already settled.
  • Preferences capture relevant working conventions.
  • Next steps describe intended follow-up work.

Let live facts lead recovery

The live snapshot refreshes from recorded activity, Git and managed runtime state. A saved next step is an intention; a completed operation needs a confirmed result.

After an interruption, ask the AI to inspect the current continuity/resume state, changes, processes and outstanding blockers before continuing. Avoid repeating an operation simply because an older plan says it was next.

Use the right recovery tool

Project Memory keeps context; History and checkpoints recover accessible project files. The optional continuation extension can deliver an authorized checkpoint to an exact saved ChatGPT conversation.

These features serve different parts of recovery. Inspect the file state after a restore and the actual runtime state before restarting work.
